Sir Jonathan Michael

Sir Jonathan Michael worked in the NHS for over 40 years. Having trained as a doctor and had his early clinical career in London he spent many years as a Consultant Physician and kidney specialist in Birmingham. Committed to the principle of delivering high quality and efficient services focussed on the needs and interests of patients, Sir Jonathan moved into hospital management spending 20 years as an NHS Chief Executive in three of the largest University Hospital Trusts in the NHS, in Birmingham, London and Oxford. Sir Jonathan was knighted in 2005 for services to the NHS.

In 2008 he chaired an Inquiry for the then Secretary of State into how NHS hospital and GP services looked after patients who happened to have learning disabilities. His findings and recommendations to improve services, “Healthcare for All”, were published in 2009.

Since retiring from the NHS in 2015, Sir Jonathan has advised hospitals, healthcare systems and Governments across the UK and overseas. His particular interests are in patient and service user engagement, clinical and corporate governance, healthcare informatics and the challenge of delivering high quality clinically and financially viable services.

Rebecca Chaloner

Rebecca Chaloner is Secretary to the Inquiry. Her role is to support and advise the Inquiry Chair and act as Chief Officer to the Inquiry. Rebecca is a member of the senior civil service and has a public sector career spanning three decades. She has previous experience of working on independent inquiries. Rebecca was Director of Governance for the independent investigation into Jimmy Savile at Leeds hospitals, Director of Health at the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, and Secretary to the Independent Inquiry into the issues raised by Ian Paterson.

Tim Suter

Tim Suter is a partner at Fieldfisher LLP.  He has experience of advising those conducting independent inquiries and inquests. His role is to assist the Chair on legal issues that may arise in the course of the Inquiry’s investigation. Tim has over 15 years of experience acting as the solicitor to an inquiry, most recently on the Manchester Arena Inquiry.

Jonathan Landau

Jonathan Landau is a barrister practising from 5 Essex Chambers.  He has nearly 20 years’ experience practising in the field of healthcare regulation.  His other main areas of practice are inquests, inquiries and public law.  He is frequently instructed by coroners in relation to claims for judicial review and sat as an Assistant Coroner for over five years.  His role is to advise the Inquiry on legal matters, particularly concerning relevant regulatory and legislative frameworks.
